Advertising Design

While at school, I was a member of a student organized advertising agency. We wanted to come up with a poster to promote the agency, but were limited to 8.5 x 11 printing. I decided to keep it simple and use a white background for maximum contrast, and to use 3D effects to make it stand out. When I think of a bulls-eye I think of darts, so I incorporated the idea into this design. The checklist represents the target audience, which in this case is anyone. I wanted to show that we will hit the target audience. I included a that reads in the first person to exemplify the message.
The poster was a success.

This Ad was created with Adobe Illustrator on a Mac.

Layout

During my senior year at school I had an internship for a local newspaper as a photojournalist. My job was to find my own stories, shoot the photos, write the articles and lay them out in InDesign. It was a fun and fast-paced process that broadened my experience. This particular article is about a woman in Deadwood, South Dakota who makes cheeskecake at her restaurant. Her cheesecake was so good that I decided to write a story about her talent. When I approached her with the idea she was delighted. We sat down and I interviewed her, getting all the facts and even some recipes which I included. She made me a peice of cheesecake which I photographed and promptly ate. She was very pleased with the article and it even brought her some new customers. During my internship I wrote several articles, all of which were printed.

This article was created with
Adobe InDesign on a PC.

Logo Design / Branding

This logo was created for a fictitious company called DB communications. I chose a font that would unite the D and B. I decided that an antenna would best represent communication. Wires lead down to the base of the letters underlining them.

This logo was created with Adobe Illustrator on a Mac.

Front-end Web Design

The university I attended had a radio station on campus. They had been considering streaming live over the internet, but they needed a website to accompany the change. I wanted to make something that had high-tech feel. The station plays alternative music and I decided to give the site a tough, metallic look. I also focused on producing an organized and simple interface. The site was a success. Putting the campus radio online was a great way to get students to tune in.

This website was created with Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady and Dreamweaver on a PC.

Photography

This work was inspired by David Hockney. I wanted to capture the whole view, even though it would produce a distortion similar to a Mercator Projection. I shot 6 photos in succession top to bottom and then repeated the process left to right. I then used the contact sheet generator in Photoshop to automatically place the photos. The result is a very high resolution image, printable at full resolution at 4 feet by 8 feet.

This photo mosaic was created with Adobe Photoshop on a Mac.

Video Editing

My love for photography made for a smooth transition to video. In 2005 I took a class in video editing. I made several commercials, PSA's and documentaries using an Avid Pro Tools workstation on a Mac. After the course I continued editing video, mostly to explore the effects made possible by Adobe AfterEffects. This video was for a contest to see who had the dirtiest fingernails, at which I pictured two dirty fingernails telling dirty jokes.
The video has been viewed 35,000 times in the last year.

Fine Art

One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is draw. Drawing is a great way to express oneself. This drawing of some paper lanterns is one of my favorites. It is 16 x 20 inches and was made with colored pencils. I have always focused on photo-realism, and this work illustrates that fact. It was selected for display in a campus gallery. I have received numerous offers to purchase it, but it is not for sale.

This image was created with colored pencils.
